Dear Rachel,
I've just read an aricle in todays Keighley News regarding
you organising a walk to do the Three Peaks Challenge. What a wonderful idea. I
myself went to all three schools in Keighley starting at Peny-ghent then going
on to Ingleborough before leaving Whernside to go to Swire Smith Middle
School.
I have to say that I am quite sure it is not a 24.5 mile walk
though as you are estimating. The three schools (known collectively as Parkwood
First School) are all across the road from each other. Even if you took a detour
to Bradford and back I dont think it would be 24.5 miles. Did you know the
schools are named after some stupid hills or something like that? They're quite
an attraction I hear. Some people even make a point of walking up the silly
things...how mad is that!!
Do you remember Miss Hue from in Whernside?
She was my favourite teacher. We all called her Miss Shoe because it was easier
to say. I was there when she retired. Sh bought us all a book the lovely woman.
I got The Twits, a book about scruffy people. It always suprised me that as Paul
Barnes was far scruffier than me and was much more deserving of it.
So
this challenge is on the 17th July next year. Not really a challenge though is
it Rachel. It's more of an outing really where people like me can catch up with
old Teachers and have a bit of a reunion over a cuppa tea. I suppose thats a
good date as all the children will have broken up for their 6 weeks
holidays.
Did you go to school there? What gave you this odd
idea?
Bye for now.
